Unfortunately, I didn't take the stunning images you see in this post. But one day, I'll have my own pictures and stories to tell of this place, and man oh man will that be the day. Do you have a dream place? You know, a certain place that is tucked away in your mind? That sometimes nags at you and pulls on your heart? Goodness, do I ever.
It all started when I was a little girl. Moving around often with my nomadic family made me adaptable and eager for adventure. I had goodbyes down pat, but they weren't always easy. I had just as hard of a time leaving my friends as I did the places where I lived, however long I had been fortunate to have known them.
So, as the curious and imaginative little girl that I was, I thought about a place I'd love to find someday. Some nights, I saw it vividly in my dreams. It was where I'd want to be. Where I could go to be found again; where my childlike self would find peace renewed in a dream fulfilled. I didn't know what that place was called, and I didn't know where it was; I just knew I had to go.
And I couldn't forget about it. Reminders were everywhere. A Studio Ghibli movie directed by my absolute favorite director Hayao Miyazaki, titled "Ponyo On the Cliff by the Sea", showcased scenery that (albeit in animated form) portrayed my mysterious, dream location. Then one day, my love and I watched "About Time", featuring Domhnall Gleeson, Bill Nighy, and Rachel McAdams. It instantly became my favorite movie. I fell in love and became obsessed and no, not with Rachel (although I do LOVE her). It was something way deeper. I had seen what could not be unseen. It was there, and in a completely fictional movie but oh so real: beautiful Cornwall, England.
I didn't need to physically be there to see it was everything I had imagined. It was my dream place. No doubt. I know this because when I saw it my heart leapt and my brained squealed "Ah-HA!" Seriously, guys. I felt like shouting "I FOUND YOU!" I couldn't explain my excitement! I had the name of the place from my literal dreams! My inner child was doing a happy dance! Except I totally cried and more like whispered in a daze: "This is it. This is the place I always imagined. The place from my dreams. It's Cornwall."
Is there a place you can't get out of your head? Where is that 'special somewhere' of your dreams? I'd love to hear about it.
